Like an invisible web of impossibly magic pockets of the internet hovering in London’s heavens, weird and wonderful WiFi proliferates enabling us tech-savvy, laptop bearing citizens to maintain our social networking and blog addictions pretty much 24/7.
Unsurprising news, then, that wireless networks in London have almost trebled in the last year. We’re outstripping New York and Paris with the rate of growth of our WiFi hotzone with public access hot spots up by 27%.
The Square Mile, Upper Street, Leicester Square, a fleet of Corney & Barrows and many, many more hotspots are all unwired and ready for you to access, free of charge whilst squatting on the kerb, spending a sordid, lonely night in a Travelodge or simply waiting for that friend who’s routinely 25 minutes late. You know who you are.
Londonist, of course, at the vanguard of the wireless revolution, has got it all mapped and the range of bars, cafes, restaurants and hotels that are ahead of the game is impressive. Even the Friends Meeting House on Euston Road has got it. Makes you wonder how the Quakers are corresponding with God these days.
