Stuff we like

Londonist Apple Store Event

Blogging is everywhere now. We're constantly seeing coverage of bloggers in the mainstream media and statisticians dazzle us with figures like 'one blog created every second'.

Unfortunately a lot of this attention adds up to nothing more than fluff. Journalists tend to pepper their articles with lazy stereotypes and the same old cliches get dusted off time after time. The final straw came when the Evening Standard dared to suggest that Londonist writers likes to pen articles 'about their pets'.

Enough is enough.

We've been blogging for a few years now and in that time we've been lucky enough to meet a few of the UK's more successful bloggers. And by 'successful' we mean they reach an impressive audience, their content is of a high and consistent quality, and they've been able to keep their blogs going for more than a fortnight.

We asked a number of these bloggers if they wouldn't mind coming together and talking a little about why, what, when, where and how they blog. We thought it would be good to have a clear, strictly non-geeky discussion of how blogging works and why we do it, and we think we've compiled a pretty impressive line-up.

Tom Coates

Tom is probably the UK's most recognised blogger. His site Plasticbag is a blogging institution and a must-read for anyone interested in the development of the web. Tom currently works for Yahoo where, in his words, he keeps himself busy promoting "social media and social software and trying to come up with innovative new applications and products".

'Annie Mole'

annie_mole.jpg
Annie Mole runs the London Underground Tube Blog, for which she gained the dubious honour of being voted rhe World's Hottest Urban Blogger. She's also been running her main site www.goingunderground.net for seven years and and is co-researcher of the book: One Stop Short of Barking - Uncovering The London Underground.

Inky Circus

inky_circus.JPG
Inky Circus are Anna, Katie and Anne: three science journalists living in London and trying to start a science magazine for women. Their blog was initially set up to record the process of starting the mag but has morphed into one of the best science news and opinion sites on the web. You can read Londonist's interview with Inky Circus here.

Tom Reynolds

daimler.jpg
Tom Reynolds writes the very popular blog Random Acts of Reality where he documents his experiences as an emergency medical technician for the London Ambulance Service. More importantly his site is also the number one search result for "Womble porn".

(As you may have noticed that's a picture of an old-style London ambulance and not Tom. That's because Tom likes to remain as anonymous as possible).

On the evening of Wednesday 5 April these four bloggers will be coming together in the Apple Store on Regent Street to talk about all elements of blogging. The event if free of course and there's even a possibility that few of us will decamp to a nearby pub afterwards to continue the discussions late into the night.

We look forward to seeing you there.
