FrightFest is Coming...

evil_aliens.jpg

We just had the first eight movies confirmed for this year's FrightFest and the news made us very happy.

Land of the Dead is set to kick things off and there's a chance that George Romero himself will be on hand to introduce it. That will help calm the annoyance we feel at having to wait so long for the damn thing.

The first part of the epic Russian horror trilogy Night Watch is perhaps (dare we say it?) even more interesting. The trailer is pure eye candy.

Marebito from Takashi (The Grudge) Shimizu is a creepy homage to Lovecraft that we've already seen and can heartily recommend (read what we thought of it here).

Jake West's Evil Aliens is a highlight after being a hit on the American festival circuit. The sublime Eve over on SFist saw it a little while ago and is STILL raving about it. From what we've heard it puts Mr West on the map the way that Bad Taste paved the way for Peter Jackson. Because we know our stuff we've already got an interview lined up with Jake which we'll be bringing to you as part of our festival coverage.

Other films so far (and there's more to come!) include 2001 Maniacs - a tribute/remake of Herschell Gordon Lewis' Two Thousand Maniacs (we remember that being covered on Jonathan Ross' Incredibly Strange Film Show - we are OLD), a German serial killer movie called Anti-Bodies, Evil Dead-esque budget-free The Roost and Born to Fight which is being described as Ong-Bak on steroids.

Quite a line up already. The Festival runs from August 26th-29th actually IN Leicester Square this year. The move from the cheap and cheerful Prince Charles to the larger air conditioned Odeon is reflected in the increased ticket price. A weekend pass for ALL the movies will cost you £130, but that still saves you £80 when compared to the individual tickets so it's the way to go if like us you're a horror junkie. Tickets go on sale on Friday.

Mike! Dying to hear what you think of Night Watch, ever since you sent me the link to the trailer I've been thinking about it.

And, seriously, Evil Aliens fucking kicks ASS, and if all you Londonists like splatter-gore-hilarity, you've got to get out there to see it.
