London Cabbie Mistaken for Expert

Nice slip by the BBC here:

Not only that, but the stocky black man with the strong French accent bore little resemblance to the picture on the expert’s website, which showed a slim white man with blue eyes and blond hair. The corporation’s News 24 channel apologised to its viewers yesterday and admitted that its interviewee was not Guy Kewney, the respected editor of Newswireless.net, but a local taxi driver. The cabbie, who is better qualified to talk about traffic jams in Shepherds Bush, answered questions for several minutes on Apple Computer’s victory at the High Court against Apple Corps, the record label for the Beatles...

The best bit is his expression at the start of the interview:

Guy Kewney himself was interviewed about this on Sunday's Broadcasting House (25 minutes in). At the end of the interview, he is asked about the Hanger Lane Gyratory System, and the profit margin on cab fares. Hilarity.

I read this morning that Guy Kewney isn't actually a cabbie, but a data cleansing expert who was interviewing for a job at the BBC. He thought he was going through some kind of bizarre BBC induction ritual and tried to just go with it! I wonder if he'll end up getting the (correct) job?

Ellie - Guy Kewney is the technology journalist, Guy Goma is the confused-looking database guy...
