Thick and racist? Surely not...

they%27re_here_and_they%27re_fucking_brain_dead.jpg
We've been doing our best to ignore Celebrity Big Brother we really have. We close our eyes when walking past the tabloids and blank out any mention of the nonsense in the broadsheets, but now that questions are being asked about it in the House of Commons (and oh, was a house ever so aptly named?) we thought we'd see what all the fuss is about this time. It turns out that the knuckle scraping 'celebrities' so dear to the nation's stupid heart may be racist.

We're not even a bit surprised.

Housemates Jade Goody, Danielle Lloyd and Jo O'Meara have been seen making fun of the Bollywood star's accent. On Monday night's episode, O'Meara reportedly suggested that Indians were thin because they were always ill as a result of undercooking their food. The trio also complained that Shilpa had touched other housemates' food with her hands. Lloyd said: "You don't know where those hands have been."

Complaints to Ofcom and Channel 4 were the result and now at least one MP has been contacted by his constituents hence the issue being raised in the House:

"We would not tolerate this kind of racism on other types of television programme and we should not do so on a programme that is watched by millions of people,"

He has a point. Millions of people though. How depressing.

The producers and Channel4 are trying to pacify the viewer’s strong views with propaganda and hype in a bid to boost viewing figures. They do this by brining on a black psychologist (CBB Big Brain) to state (with all her qualifications) that Shilpa is not a victim and that she can give as good as she gets. You may infer from this that it is ok to be racist or bully someone if they can stand up for themselves. Racism is a crime in this country, a piece of legislation that the makers seem to forget

By not imposing serious sanctions action against the perpetrators they are condoning such behaviour.

"Racism is a crime in this country, a piece of legislation that the makers seem to forget"

It is not illegal to show somebody putting forth racist views though surely? What about documentaries where footage of policemen being racist are shown?

Racism is a misleading term intentionally weighted in favour of the immigrants, jewish in this case, who invented the concept. People who hate dogs don't hate dogs because they are dogs they hate dogs because they bark all day and shit on the pavement. The term racism puts all the blame on the victim. If I went to live in an igloo and offended all the eskimos would it be their problem? I don't think so.

But not ALL dogs bark all day and shit on the pavement. Not ALL immigrants cause the problems that racists associate with immigrants. To rob someone of their individuality by alienating it to a generalised view of their race is deplorable.

Regarding the eskimos, I would hope that, although perhaps offended, they would be understanding that you have a different way of life as valid as theirs.

Is Claire Mel Gibson in disguise? All the Jews' fault? Give me a break.

I haven't been watching Celebrity Big Brother, but heard about this claim this morning on GMTV.

"The trio also complained that Shilpa had touched other housemates' food with her hands. Lloyd said: "You don't know where those hands have been.""

- I don't see how this is racist. It's only racist if you're choosing to read it that way; had it been said about a white person would we be having this discussion at all?

I don't see how this is racist. It's only racist if you're choosing to read it that way

I think in context with what else has been said it's obviously a racist remark:

"The actress has been called a "dog" and contestants have complained about her touching their food. The pop singer Jo O'Meara declared that Indians were thin because they were always ill as a result of undercooking food. Shetty’s accent has been mocked and she was asked if she lived in a shack."

That's from today's Times. The complaints have now
reached 10,000 and sponsors are threatening to pull out.

Claire, you seem to be under the misapprehension that "Thick and Stupid?" is a request for people with those qualities to post gibberish.
