An LDA report suggests that unexploded WWII bombs pose an insidious threat to the Olympics. Quoth the Ken:

Of course there's a risk of bombs. We did get a lot of dropped on us during the war and we haven't found them all yet. The only way you're going to get this dealt with is with a real pressure point like the Olympics.

The report (for which no link is given) warns of an estimated 200 bombs in the vicinity. Let's hope we aren't makng puns about construction booms a few months from now.

In fairness, unexploded bombs are not as rare as you might think. Also this week, a WWII grenade was uncovered in Great Missenden, Bucks. A team of gardeners had a lucky escape afrer digging up the relic. According to gardener Alan Ball:

The only thing that was holding the release part of the grenade was clay and chalk. The pin was actually out. It could have gone at any time, we found out subsequently.

And then there's this chap, who found an unexploded ordnance on the Isle of Sheppey.

And the Southampton man who clearly left his kid gloves at home the day he encountered another of Jerry's leftovers:

I couldn't believe it. I was so shocked I held it in my hands for a few seconds then I chucked it back on the floor, which in hindsight wasn't the best of ideas

What an excellent fellow. We think we saw him playing in goal for Man Utd at the weekend.
