Expansion plans at both Stansted and London City airports have been approved by the Government. Under the proposals, rubber-stamped by new Transport Secretary Geoff Hoon, another 10 million passengers will join the 25 million currently enjoying the jaunt Essexwards on the Stansted Express each year, while City will welcome a 50% increase in flights, bringing a total of 3.2 million passengers annually. Green campaigners and local residents have reacted with typical incandescence, made particularly......

Being Mayor of London has its perks. If your family have a crappy time getting home from holiday, caught up in the purgatory of Gatwick baggage reclaim and – despite your eminent public standing and instantly recognisable blond moptop – being helpless to do anything about it then at least you have the comfort of spilling your literary aspirational guts about it in the Telegraph and tacking on a bit of transport policy too,......

The ever-uncertain outlook for the aviation industry has prompted desperate actions by some airlines. BMI has been forced to deny the claim made by an employee that they will fly near-empty planes over the summer in order to preserve highly lucrative landing slots at Heathrow. Meanwhile, Ryanair has trimmed it's London services, grounding 15 flights from Stansted as passenger numbers drop and oil prices rise. Time to consider a different mode of transport - by......

Entreaties from badly-barnetted glam-rock acts notwithstanding, residents living in Heathrow's flight path can't help but feel the "noize", every sodding morning as the first jet of the day - BA Flight 26 from Hong Kong - roars out of the dawn sky and touches down shortly after 5am. A week after a group of councils lost their case over halting night flights, campaigners are taking a more direct approach to ensure that the aural......

And it worked. After months of news items devoted to Heathrow's T5, baggage mishaps, proposed terminal and runway expansions, and Greenpeace protests, the UK’s third busiest airport has finally said to hell with all that and made its own bid for a bit of attention. And what a bid it is. BAA’s plans to double the size of Stansted – second runway, second terminal, open for business by 2015 – would mean, according to......

It's only slightly further away from central London than Stansted. Plans exist to link it by rail to the Capital, and it could be a partial solution to the congestion problems caused by the continued rise in air passengers to and from London. All Southend Airport needs now is a new owner willing to take up this development challenge. The current owner, Regional Airports Ltd, says the site is ideal due to the government's......

Hallelujah! Heathrow, Stansted and London City airports are lifting the one bag restriction from today! The era of squashing what you can into a carefully measured single piece of hand luggage or resigning yourself to checking in your bags and the inevitable lengthy scramble at the carousels at the other end is almost over. Security teams at 19 airports in the UK have been deemed capable of checking more than one bag per person,......

We feel churlish bringing it up again, but not so long ago Heathrow was voted the world's least favourite airport. As we head into the crunch Christmas travel period, it could surely use a slice of decent press. So is there any good news to come out of TW19? Is there 'eck. Word reaches us that key workers at Heathrow are to be balloted for a strike. The Unite union has asked the airport's......
