'We'll play this next song, and then we'll do requests', Nick Cave tells the audience in the art-deco Troxy, 'as long as they're on the list. And in the right order.' Such is the added bonus of seeing the snake-hipped, immaculately-tailored musician live - not only will you be involved in a stage show that can't fail to blast you out of oblivion, but you also get to experience Cave's deadpan wit and constant......

On Sunday, the London Transport Museum hosted the second of its semi-regular Heritage Train Days, between Harrow and Amersham. Having previewed it back in August, we were kindly invited along for the ride. The featured attraction, a 1938 Northern Line train, last saw regular service in the Seventies but has found itself a cosy retirement as a timepiece from the Tube's storied past. Within well-maintained red carriages, a mixture of epochs are found: period furnishings......

Anyone who has ever surfed the internet in a quest for enlightenment about British theatre will undoubtedly have come across the West End Whingers’ blog. By now, Andrew and Phil have become internet blogging stars, doing for theatre what Belle de Jour did for prostitution with only slightly less lubricant. Andrew and Phil have ranted against ticket prices, bar prices, fringe theatre and the general state of affairs since 2006, accumulating a huge fan......

The tube loves throwing money at art almost as much as it loves making money from big corporate advertising. Platform for Art is TFL’s public art programme and its latest commission sees Turner Prize winner Liam Gillick’s work on the new cover for the tube map - the design shows the words of the date of the last day in London without the Underground network: Friday 9 January 1863, done in the 12 colours......

There might have been no 'donkey cocks' this week, but Ramsey's Kitchen Nightmares is still essential viewing in this post-Hell's Kitchen USA times. If you didn't see it, Gordon went to Lancashire and shouted at the landlord of The Fenwick Arms for buying too many plates and having a crap menu. As ever on Kitchen Nightmares the solution was simply to cut the menu down to simple dishes and to use good ingredients. As......

We like our hidden bits of London, the secret and forgotten and pleasantly rediscovered bits. Did you know that there was once a swimming pool in the very heart of Soho? The Marshall Street Baths were built in 1931 for "the health and well-being of local people," with one large pool and one smaller "second class" pool that incidentally has the nicer roof - an extremely fine example of barrel vaulted Art Deco design.......

Why did no one bring this to our attention earlier? This is the funniest thing we've ever seen, as well as one of the most grotesque: The Stadium will be a superb collection of contemporary studios, 1, 2 and 3 bedroom apartments and penthouses set within the Art Deco surroundings of Arsenal Stadium, Highbury. Features include: * Terraces/balconies to most apartments * Central landscaped garden with water features * 24 hour concierge * Fitness......

The BBC has some wonderful pictures from inside Battersea Power Station, showing once and for all what a remarkable time capsule it is. The pictures include the station's Art Deco entrance hall, its futuristic (for the 1950s) control rooms, its towering spaces, and the eerie Marie Celeste feel of some of its undisturbed rooms. Battersea has been pictured before, of course - it's long been a favourite film and TV set. (Here are some......
