Last night London's Luvvieland came together for their annual award ceremony, the Oliviers. Having received 11 nominations across 10 categories, it looked like being Hairspray's night. And Londonist is happy to confirm what we already knew: the show is a deserved winner of the Best New Musical accolade. In addition, Leanne Jones (Best Actress in a Musical) rocks as the optimistic teen, Tracy Turnblad; Tracie Bennett (Best Supporting Role in a Musical) is similarly......

Josie Long was the winner of the BBC New Comedy Award in 1999 at the tender age of 17. In that year she was also a runner up in the So You Think You're Funny? competition. She won best newcomer in the Chortle Awards 2001-2003 after which she took time off performing to complete her English degree at Oxford university. Since her return to stand up she has toured in support of Stewart Lee......

Something we should have picked up on last week (but didn't because we were too busy making crap jokes about ducks) was the Fancy A Pint London Pub Awards. The awards are put on to "showcase London's best pubs and to thank the people who have worked so hard over the year to provide an enjoyable drinking environment for everyone and, in doing so, making the pub-going experience an outstanding one." A worthy and......

First up, a little welcome. The eagle-eyed amongst you will have noticed the debut post yesterday by our new signing, Talia. Talia brings some much-needed pop nous to the Londonist Music Dungeon and will help to broaden the eclectic coverage we already give to music. She's also a big Pipettes fan so a long sentence in the dungeon is assured. Before we launch into the gigs update, here's Talia's update on the MOBOs: Little......

Rolling round again for 2005, tonight sees the 10th annual MOBO awards taking place at the Royal Albert Hall. Famously dogged with controversy last year for the revoking of homophobic reggae artists nominations, the 2005 awards should run a bit more smoothly with the only controversy so far surrounding whether Joss Stone really fits into the ethos of the event. Former Fame Academy student and oft top 20 charter, Lemar, is the front runner......

While perusing the pages of an online newspaper, Londonist came across the headline "Sienna Miller beaten to award by schoolboy". A few questions immediately came to mind but namely: What was Sienna Miller nominated for? And who is this schoolboy? Clearly whoever wrote this headline intended for the reader to be overwhelmed with curiosity that without thinking, we would click on the link. We did just that (and hopefully you did the same because of......

A disappointing night at the Brits for London acts, unless you count the Brummie with the faux-Cockney accent Mike Skinner aka The Streets, who won the Best British Male Solo Artist award. The Londonist office is divided on The Streets so we won't say any more lest a fist-fight break out. In the international categories, the entertaining Scissor Sisters cleaned up in the Best Group, Best Album and Best Newcomer categories. The Brits site......
