Everyone’s talking about sublime lo-fi popstrels My Sad Captains. Well we are anyway. Their brand of luminescent indie brims with catchy melodies and striking lyrics, perfect for a summer’s day – think a DIY-Death Cab or a Brit-based Fanfarlo. We told them we’d stamp on their Pavement record collection unless they agreed to feature in Listen Up!, and, being a sensible lot, they agreed. Catch them in their full fresh-faced glory tonight at Buffalo Bar’s......

With Notting Hill Carnival upon us in full effect the next day, you probably won't want to cane it too severely on Sunday night, but gently starting the party early never hurt anyone. Well, on second thought, it probably did at some point or other, but Upset The Rhythm should guarantee that at least you'll be entranced by interesting sounds if not completely kept out of harm's way. This Sunday sees these never dull......

Monday sees Portland, Oregon’s new indie-rock darlings The Thermals play Dingwalls with support from Siberia’s SonicFlyer. Tickets are still available from See Tickets at £8.50 each plus booking fees. Tellison play their “disarming melodies and big-hearted guitars” at the Camden Barfly, with support coming from Encyclopedia, The Xcerts and Gavin Osborn, with tickets only £6 each. Popular Canadian singer-songwriter Feist plays Scala on Tuesday night, though tickets are long gone unfortunately – Scarlet mist may......

Typically 80s nights can be either a bit naff or full of students singing along to songs they're not old enough to know, but we're happy to come across one that sounds like actual, amazing fun. Prom Night is in town at the Buffalo Bar this Saturday, and as it's the last one in a while, we thought it only fitting to catch up with the boys and girls for their last dance. When......

Last week we introduced you to Leeds' glamourous Dead Disco. This week marks the release of their twisted debut single, The Treatment, and of course their very first gig in London at Club Motherfucker at The Garage in Highbury. Playing alongside the band will be upandcoming Glaswegian band Bricolage who, we hear, are worth going to see themselves! Not only that but Bis remnants, Data Panik, will be hotfooting it from their own gig......

You've probably already broken your new year's resolutions and feeling pretty crappy about yourself, so before you descend into a slough of despondency and decide that your sofa is comfy enough for you to stay in all year, get yourself down to the Buffalo Bar (on Upper Street) this Saturday to see The Pipettes. The polka dot princesses are due on at around 10.45pm and play as part of The Guided Missile night, and......

As with the weekly TV review, we're trying to come up with a good title for our regular gig alerts. Londonist loves a good pun. Actually, we like an awful pun, too, so any ideas are welcome. Please do your worst in the comments section. We said in a previous post that we'd try to avoid writing about the obvious bands, so in that spirit here are a couple of reasons why you should......
