Taking the lead from our cousins in LA, here starts a seasonal series Style-ist. We're sending forth our Flickrpool photographers to capture street style through the seasons. As the Kinks said "...Everywhere the Carnabetion Army marches on, each one a Dedicated Follower of Fashion." Here's late summer Carnaby Street by Natalie Ujuk.......

Londonist always gets a warm fuzzy feeling when someone proves to us that there's still hope for humanity. Ernie Dingo, famous for his role in Crocodile Dundee II, became a real life hero when he came to the rescue of a young boy getting bullied. Dingo was on Carnaby Street filming for his Channel 7 series The Great Outdoors when his attention was drawn to a boy following a group of bullies who had......

There's something of a Valentine's theme to the Arts of choice taking place in the capital this week. But Londonist knows for every young Juliet embracing the idea of timeless romantic love, there's a Bridget hugging her near-empty vodka bottle, crooning to Chaka Khan. So, in the name of balance, here's a varied, half 'rom', half 'com' round-up for you all. Shows for Swingin' Lovers: Photographer Gregg Stone, has been taking snaps of kissing......

Last Friday’s Halloween Party at Black Pearl Boutique was a spooky retro blast. Jack-o-Lantern orange cocktails were served by a dead cheerleader and (what Londonist reckons was) a zombie prom queen. And if you’ve never had Jack-o-Lantern orange cocktails served by a dead cheerleader and a zombie prom queen, you’ll be pleased to know that they are exceptionally potent with booze. The party was also a frighteningly clever excuse for a bit of shopping:......

Black Pearl Boutique, Carnaby Street’s “haven of rockabilly jewellery, vintage 1950’s clothing, burlesque corsets, and accessories”, is having a free Halloween party this Friday from 6.30 to 10pm. With its ‘Polynesian tiki style’ décor, the shop evokes the spirit of 1950s tiki bars and is a happening place to visit, party or not. So, the fact that complimentary Black Pearl cocktails created especially for the party will be served means this Halloween shin dig......

Being referred to as the father of TV celebrity Sharon Osbourne would no doubt cause Don Arden to throw one of his legendary tantrums from beyond the grave and hang the hapless BBC hack who penned these words from his office window. This after all is the woman who used to send the contents of her children's nappies hidden in Macy's boxes to music executives who'd pissed her off. Arden, whose behaviour earned him......

Still a week away from the unveiling of the new BFI Southbank complex the press have been given a glimpse of what to expect of the NFT's replacement: In addition to the existing three cinemas, the venue will include the Mediatheque, offering free access to over 300 film and TV titles from the BFI archive. The "digital jukebox" contains clips from the last 100 years, including feature length films such as Brief Encounter and......

Fluffy mashed potato, sizzling juicy sausages, tasty lip-licking gravy... Mmm we're almost sounding like an M&S food porn advert - but instead we're talking about Mother Mash. It's a "new take" on the traditional sausage and mash food den positioned expensively on Ganton Street just round the back of Carnaby Street. Happily we can report that at £6.95, prices don't reflect it's location too much. The concept is as follows. You take your seat......

We've been fans of stpiduko's photos for ages now. His work always jumps out of us from the Londonist Flickr stream and you may remember this project of his from earlier in the year. Well, after a small test shoot of a further 25 Londoners on Carnaby Street... This morning I planned to do a series of portraits against a plain background, as you can see from above things change when I’ve been drinking......

An Italian terrorism expert who met Litvinenko at ITSU has tested positive for Polunium-210. Thierry Henry is out of tomorrow's North London - Arsenal v Tottenham derby thanks to a neck injury. London church leaders met last night to plan major prayer events for the capital next year, including a rally to be held at Upton Park. The much-awaited smoking ban now has a date. It's due to come into force in England on......

Handbags at dawn! It's like Jay-Z and Nas all over again. Beef alert - this time with David and Ken. The deeds have been signed - Battersea Power Station has been sold to an Irish company. Is Bloombury going to be getting a makeover! Plans include a Peace Garden in Tavistock Square. Are creepy dolls and broken clowns your thing? Well rejoice! Bethnal Green's Museum of Childhood is reopening next weekend. And finally, this......

Songs about London: there have been many. But we thought it was about time someone mapped them out. So, using the power of Platial, that's exactly what we did. The map above contains 100 famous and not-at-all famous songs about specific locations in our city. It can be magnified, scrolled, and even added to if you're a Platial member. It's interesting to note the most popular places to inspire songwriting. Soho and Chelsea are......

Attention all students of London's more 'swinging' times: there's a programme on Radio 2 tonight at 8:30 which promises to pay tribute to the swingingest of all the swingy streets: Carnaby Street. Ok, so it's presented by Lulu, but don't let that put you off. They've also enlisted 60s pop luminaries like Pete 'it was research your honour' Townshend and Dave Davies of the Kinks in to help answer the question "which came first:......

We like our hidden bits of London, the secret and forgotten and pleasantly rediscovered bits. Did you know that there was once a swimming pool in the very heart of Soho? The Marshall Street Baths were built in 1931 for "the health and well-being of local people," with one large pool and one smaller "second class" pool that incidentally has the nicer roof - an extremely fine example of barrel vaulted Art Deco design.......

Flaming Nora is the latest incarnation of the current trend for fresh and healthy fast food. We're not talking about McDonald's new 'salad menu' here, we're talking about places like Fresh and Wild and Leon off Carnaby Street. But Fresh and Wild is all a bit 'nappy valley' for our tastes and there's never one around when you need one, and Leon isn't exactly post-pub faire...and that's where Flaming Nora fits in. Set up......

Well that's according to 'property tycoon' Jonathan Lane, who's interviewed in the Telegraph today. "Commercial property has built-in obsolescence, and the more intelligent buildings are, the more sensitive they are to technical change," Lane is quoted as saying. "We'll be around long after Canary Wharf." Lane is the chief executive of Shaftesbury plc who own most of Carnaby Street (including Kingly Court), some of Chinatown, and a large chunk of Covent Garden. It all......

We like toys and we're not ashamed to say it. Ok, so maybe we're a little ashamed to say it. Especially to girls we're trying to impress, or our parents, but otherwise we're ok. Which is why this edition of Londonist Loves... is dedicated to the shop Playlounge on Beak street. Before Playlounge we had to sit and drool over Japanese or US websites with all their lovely vinyl figures and incredibly high shipping......
