The air feels a little crisper. Leaves crunch underfoot. Daylight’s shorter, but twilight glows more warmly. It’s apple season. Such bundle-up weather has Londonist pulling out our most favoured woolly jumpers (well, we never really put them away) and listening to disproportionate amounts of Neil Young. Autumnal conditions have got hold of Moti Mahal’s Chef Ani as well. In fact, the dude’s come up with a collection of ten apple chutneys to sample for......

Saturday morning had Londonist sitting in on a cookery class at “chic and contemporary Indian restaurant” Moti Mahal (near Covent Garden at 45 Great Queen Street, WC2B 5AA). The student/teacher ratio was low (about ten in our class). And, our teacher, head chef Anirudh Arora (aka Chef Ani) was brilliant. His guided tour of Moti Mahal’s thriving kitchen impressed us, as did his mellow yet authoritative manner while sharing his cookery skills. Indeed, the......

Londonist just got word that Gourmet Restaurant Group, owners of the Tiffinbites brand, recently acquired Indian take-away chain the Bombay Bicycle Club. The deal coincides with the acquisition of Indian food and restaurant group Vama (which consists of a fine dining resto on Kings Road as well as large scale catering operations) and makes Gourmet Restaurant Group the largest Indian restaurant group in the UK. According to GRG’s CEO and founder, Jamal Hirani, the......

Tower Hamlets' plan to ensure hassle-free passage along Brick Lane has resulted in restaurant tout Dilwar Ali being fined £400, after he was found guilty of touting for Chillies restaurant. Already this year the council has slapped an ASBO on another tout, Motin Miah, who was also enticing people into Chillies. Might be a restaurant to avoid, and we remind you when seeking a joint to enjoy your jalfrezi in, always remember the Poppadom Rule:......

That above is some of the finest onion bhajia that Londonist has eaten. Instead of a dense blob of onion stodge, these were light shreds of onion coated in a gram flour batter and then deep fried. These were eaten at the Mirch Masala in Southall, though they have other branches across London. The Karahi fish tikka masala was recommended to us by the waiter and featured lots of fish in plenty of spicy......

Lovvers at Stag and Dagger The inaugural Stag and Dagger took place last night around Shoreditch, bringing out artists, film makers, and tons of bands. Londonist took on the challenge of trying to determine just how much we could pack into a six hour space. We started our evening early at Black Rat Press to see, appropriately enough, the works of French street artist Blek le Rat (Londonist had the priveledge to see him in......
