We're considering giving our notice at Londonist Towers and upping sticks for a new home. Specifically, we want to move into Jean Prouvé's Maison Tropicale. The prefabricated bungalow, standing on the front lawn outside Tate Modern, is in London as part of the excellent Prouvé retrospective at the Design Museum. Dating from the 1950s, the Maison was an attempt at creating lightweight, flat-pack housing for colonial authorities that could easily be loaded into a......

Now, stories from the IT world ordinarily don’t do much for Londonist besides make our eyes glaze over. (We’re sorry, IT people, we’re sure you’re lovely, that your jobs are fascinating, and that we wouldn’t be able to do what we do without you. It’s just that we can’t understand what you’re saying.) So when we noticed this story about a new website created to help IT companies bid for contracts for the 2012......

Catholicism may be Britain's most popular religion - and have recently claimed a high profile new convert in the form of a certain ex-PM - but faith alone won't save Westminster Cathedral. The mother church of the Roman Catholic community in England and Wales is in need of urgent structural repairs, and Cardinal Cormac Murphy-O'Connor has launched an appeal to cobble £3 million together for renovations. Dating from 1903, the unfinished Byzantine cathedral spires......

It is pretty cool and rather rare when an almost A-list celeb truly proves their worth, rolls up their sleeves and gets their hands dirty. Jemimah Khan has in the last day or two shown herself to be a woman of astonishing integrity and courage, and Londonist is feeling like a right bitch for previously thinking anything less of her. The press call her a ‘former socialite’, but once a socialite, always thus: it is......

When Lisa Connell hit the local press last month we were impressed by her spirited determination and charitable entrepreneurship in the face of personal adversity. We caught up with her this weekend to find out how the fundraising's going, whether there's been any naughty business yet and just where should you take Barnet's finest once you've bid her up? So, how’s the dating going? Well its still in the early stages. I’ve managed to......

We’re all going to die at some unpredictable point. However, discovering you’ve an identifiable mortality timebomb discreetly ticking away in your brain is going to make you reassess your life. You can’t ignore the fact that you’ve been dealt a rather more difficult card, highlighting your vulnerability, yet not allowing you to plan for anything, because, who knows how long you’ve got. This happened recently to Lisa Connell, 28, of Barnet. Initially devastated by......

If you carry a handbag on a regular basis, we're sure that, like us, you've had the joyful experience of finding a misplaced fiver tucked into a corner, or a pack of gum just when you fancy a piece, or your favourite lipgloss which you'd written off as lost. Handbags can be a treasure trove of hidden objects, and it's always delightful to find something unexpected inside. An elderly widower in Woking found treasure......

It's not the first place you would think of when looking for love but for those with a questing heart, the place to go is Euston Road. art2heart is the dating organisation that aims to bring people together through art and culture. The idea is both lofty and lovely: each month, 150 people, sometimes more, gather for monthly art2heart events held at prestigious museums or galleries where art can be admired and discussed with......

It's a always sad day when superheroes turn to the dark side. First Spider-Man got all dark and mysterious on the big screen, and now he's taken to vandalism on London's streets. Spider-Man (or a vandal disguised as Spider-Man, which really seems more probable) is accused of causing £1,000 worth of damages to the window of a Chingford Domino's Pizza. Apparently enraged at being unable to buy pizza after the shop was closed, he......

One of the hottest new bands around at the moment, The Hoosiers are receiving rave reviews and wowing crowds across the country on their joint headlining tour with Grace. Sounding like a fun British mix of We Are Scientists and Kooks together at once - the humour of WAS' live shows, and the British indie-pop nature of Kooks. Either way, they're bound to be at a lot of festivals this summer, and their debut single......

At the turn of the millennium, the ‘beast’ of Bexley was born, a headline created by the London press. It was an inaccuracy, a contradiction and a conundrum. A large, seemingly exotic cat fuelled the imagination of the public, evaded the pursuing police, and stirred the sceptics. Something from legend prowling the open spaces, the back gardens of this bustling city? Surely not! However, the sceptics, the press and the police were completely wrong......

When you woke up this morning, your first thought was most likely “It’s St. George’s Day!” You undoubtedly leapt out of bed, barely able to contain your excitement, ready to kick up your heels and start celebrating in style. However, you might find yourself stumped as to what you can do to commemorate this special occasion, seeing as you most likely have to work (unless you happen to be employed by this guy). But......

The Guardian has a neat little slide show dedicated to the new Tate Modern extension. The flamboyant, highly theatrical and immensely complex 11-storey glass tower in the form of a spiralling stepped pyramid, or ziggurat, is destined to rise from the south-west corner of the existing gallery, formerly Bankside Power Station. See artists' impressions of what the new gallery will look like in the London skyline and what it will be like inside its......

London graffiti is getting cleverer, bolder and more and more abstract. Banksy, DrD and the abstract stencillers have blurred the line between art and vandalism and yet more blurring occurs in a new solo show by a graffiti artist open in Southwark this week. SheOne is the British graffiti artist James Choules who was"an influential part of the 80’s graffiti renaissance" according to the press release. The spraycan artist is having his first solo......

Sunday. Usually, a quiet, contemplative day in the Blogosphere. But not here in the Ist-a-Verse. Nonono! Just look below and see all of the wild and crazy stuff our staffs are up to. In Austin, bands are beginning to confirm for SXSW and the rumor mill is up and running. Good thing, too, because we all know how much Austinites love live performances. Austin also found itself in the national spotlight, with Longhorn Legend......

Seen the Bravia ad with all the exploding paint? Here it is: We always knew that clowns were terrorists. The final ad was filmed in Glasgow, but there's an interview about filming the ad up on Film London. Turns out the exploding paint was first tested in London: My first action was to call Film London and send a blanket email to all London boroughs to find out if any council housing was being demolished......

We first saw Caroline Clifford in the final of the Amused Moose new act competition at the Edinburgh Fringe this year, and hers was the best 7 minutes we'd heard all festival. She was also a finalist at So You Think You're Funny 2006. As well as standing up, she draws cartoons. How are you? I’m well thanks – I have a slight pain in my left buttock, I don’t *think* it’s cancer although......

You know the airports are well and truly fucked when they have to be evacuated before they've even been built: Part of Heathrow's £4bn Terminal Five site had to be evacuated after the discovery of an unexploded anti-aircraft shell. Work on the project ground to a halt for a few hours, after builders dug up the shell, dating back to World War II. Thousands of workers were moved to safety and a 200m exclusion......

Ever thought that love is so hard to find, it should be put in a museum in a heavily guarded glass display case, if it is ever found? You could be almost right... Love can be found in museums but it's less a case of "please do not touch the exhibits" and more along the lines of "can I have your phone number?" at the Romance of Persia: Singles Night. This event combines art,......

TV Troll has been dilatory of late. We missed the return of our favourite Aussies on Monday (Kath & Kim, Mon 10pm BBC2), we didn't warn you about the return of X Factor (Fri 8.30pm ITV1), and, most damningly, we didn't even cover the Big Brother final. Apologies – but we reckon the blanket coverage of BB absolves us a bit, and we'd given up by the last fortnight anyway as it was becoming......

Breaking news from the BBC: Police are searching a house in south London after receiving information that human remains were on the site. Officers began searching the house in Walton Green, New Addington, Croydon, on Monday. It followed an anonymous allegation made in a letter sent to detectives claiming that human remains dating from more than 30 years ago were there. A Metropolitan Police spokesman said that no arrests had been made and inquiries......

A StreetWars competition is currently taking place in our city. We've sent one of our own, Alex, to take part . Here's how he's getting on.... The man in the white t-shirt pictured to the left is an assassin. And you thought the God Squad was a mere turn of phrase. If the previews for God's Next Army (Mon 8pm C4) are right, then the Grand Old Party should be on its guard as a Trojan horse of bright young things - bright, utterly fanatical young zealots from fundie colleges in the South, we should say - is preparing to take it over from the inside. Yes, in this documentary we get to......

Just in case you'd forgotten what a downright horrible place London can be: A woman's remains were found in her bedsit nearly three years after she died, an inquest heard. The TV and heating were still on when housing officials investigating rent arrears found Joyce Vincent's remains in her living room on 25 January. As they forced the door of the flat in Wood Green, north London, they also found stacks of unopened mail,......
