This could be the fate of St Paul's Cathedral after a (tongue-in-cheek) application to the City of London for complete demolition of the 17th Century landmark. Perhaps for next week's Touch Up London, someone could put together what the cathedral's 21st century glass-and-steel replacement might look like? The former Middlesex Hospital in Fitzrovia has been under hoarding for some time now, awaiting a wholesale mixed-use redevelopment. Late last year a group of local artists twigged that the iconic building was about to disappear with all its secrets and embarked on a last minute crusade to create work about the building, its history, and previous and future occupants. According to Camden New Journal (print edition), two of the Borough's more distinctive structures are not long for this world. The Bloomsbury Service Station (right), on Store Street, is reckoned to be London's oldest garage, pedaling petrol since 1926. Its cornflower blue trimmings are a welcome sight in the otherwise monotone streets of Bloomsbury. But its days are numbered thanks to a drop in business attributed to the congestion charge. A Putney cottage designed by Erno Goldfinger has been illegally destroyed. Arbus Ltd, of Croydon, applied for permission to pull down the building in 2002, but was refused. Living up to his surname, Director of the company Rajiv Laxman paid little heed to the order and the building’s Grade II listed status, demolishing the cottage anyway. He’s now been ordered to pay £11,000 and forced to rebuild the property using the same design and......
