As if wine, whiskey, beer, absinthe and rum weren’t enough, Vinopolis even has a space dedicated to gin. Bombay Sapphire gin to be exact. It’s a nice roomy and white space with turquoise highlights. Kinda like walking into and through a bottle of Bombay Sapphire (without getting wet and sticky). Vinopolis reckons the Bombay Sapphire Experience’s purpose is twofold: one, give groups of up to thirty guests a chance “to enhance their cocktail making......

All this month, kitsch Belgian restaurant Belgo is offering an Oktoberfeast menu to celebrate … erm … feasting … in … erm … October. Good ole Belgian favourites such as moules blanches (mussels cooked in brugs witbier with bacon lardons) and carbonnade flamande (braised beef cooked in faro beer, nutmeg and brown sugar) are among the substantial menu fillers available. And (get this) there’s beer too. YAY! Beer. Those Belgians do beer so well.......

Want some recognition for all that elbow bending at the bar? Well, head over to Jermyn Street’s Cavendish Hotel, sidle up to Lobby Bar and ask the bartender for the “Gold Medal”. Created by Cavendish’s head barman, Robert Gaggl, the “Gold Medal” – available now and through the rest of October – commemorates the Beijing Games and welcomes the Olympic Victory Parade on 16th of this month. Oh Sherry, there’s no reason to be all alone anymore! “Culinary alchemist” Heston Blumenthal (of Fat Duck fame), with scientist Professor Don Mottram of Reading University, has discovered a group of compounds known as diketopiperazines (try saying that drunk without offending someone) in Sherry. Apparently, these diketopiperazines are thought to accentuate the taste and flavour of “umami-rich” foods. At the opening of Beer Exposed last night we earnestly hoped to have our palates wowed and our beer knowledge enhanced. The expo has the strapline "explore, educate, enlighten" but we can reliably report that what's actually going on is a whole bunch of people getting delightfully drunk on many different types of beer and only realising it when they start giggling at a man dressed in a Chinese jacket with the nametag "Angus".......

Monopoly pub crawl? Boring. Circle Line pub crawl? Banned. It's high time someone developed a few new drinking tours around the capital. We started off with a sojourn around the variable boozers of London's train stations. Our conclusion? Nice, grim, grim, oooo, not so grim, grim, grim, ug. Now, to mark the opening of the Royal Institution's plush new bar and restaurant (more on that later this month), we decided to raise a glass......

We know a thing or three about karaoke here at Londonist. We've lost count of the number of times we've drunkenly decided that, rather than fighting for a space in a crowded late-night boozer, we'll settle for a seedy Soho sing-me-up. And it's always great fun, but the venues themselves often leave a lot to be desired. We could do without the room turning into a sauna, the loveless decor, and the genuine fear......
