Wonderful, wizard wifi. It keeps the Crackberry addicts happy, the laptop lovers mobile and coffee shops full of latte-quaffing surfers. We've marked out where to find free wifi around town and want to see more little flags on the map so even more of you can enjoy internet access wherever you may end up. However, there seems to be a gossamer-thin line between free and stolen which was crossed just this week - and......

Walking, iPods and London trivia are the holy trinity as far as Londonist is concerned. The three have now reached a state of conjoined perfection in Soundmap. Sites offering guided walks via media players are two a penny. We reviewed a whole troupe of them last year. Some are well written but lack production, others are polished but empty. Soundmap gets everything right. The three walks currently on the site cover Soho, Camden and......

Last week we reported on Walk Score, a tool for people who want to take positive steps towards greener living. This week, something for our more pessimistic readers: Flood Maps. Another twist on Google Maps, look up where you live or where you’re thinking of moving to, type in the amount you predict sea levels will rise, and find out whether you’re going to end up underwater. Projecting sea level rise is problematic. A......

Over the years there have been many attempts to introduce the rather shy, furtive and, let's face it, constantly tardy London Underground system to the shiny, brash and only occasionally unstable world of modern technology. Keeping track of the Tube's many ups and downs would be a huge benefit to the thousands of us who use it every single day. Wouldn't it be great to know about a 'suspect package' or a 'derailment' before......

Whether you're a tourist looking for alternative sights to see, or a proper Londoner who enjoys poking around the more obscure part of town, you can't beat London's historic and bounteous collection of alleyways, snickels and passageways. Over the past few months, Londonist has been exploring these often overlooked shortcuts in our weekly Back Passage column. Now, finally, we've got around to mapping the blighters, using the mapping tools at Platial.com. The column will......

It's been a while since our last Hacking London column so we thought we'd fill the gap with a quick but tasty morsel of techy goodness, and believe it or not this particular slice of goodness comes courtesy of Transport for London. Yes, that Transport for London. TfL's new traffic news site launched today and it actually works...and it's useful (anyone who has ever tried to use TfL's tube journey planner will understand why......

Welcome to a new Londonist column: Hacking London. As you may have guessed by now, the idea behind Hacking London is to take a look at the more geeky, techy and gadgety aspects of life in the Capital. So to that end we'll be looking at some of useful websites and technologies which will hopefully make your life that bit easier (unless the batteries run out). We'll also be presenting a regular rundown of......
