Happy birthday to you... Happy birthday to you... Yes, Boris Johnson's 44 today. Bet his desk's all decorated with balloons and there's a smashing big cake for elevenses. However, there's no day off for the birthday boy who had to get up jolly early to appear on this morning's Today programme to answer questions about what happens when the Olympics goes over the £9.3bn budget. Boris' was affable and only slightly bumbling and maintained......

Stand Aside, oh diminuitive purpley chap formerly known as Prince. Make Way for the taller and altogether more substantial man formerly known as the 42nd President of the USA. As previewed here last month, Bill Clinton came to the O2 this lunchtime. To afford the VIP tickets we re-mortgaged our home, sold our grandma to science before she'd even popped her clogs and employed George Galloway to do a bit of fund-raising for us.......

The Museum of Childhood reopened yesterday, after a one year shutdoor for refurb. Unfortunately, and tragically, the Central Line was effectively closed all afternoon because of 'a person under a train' at the nearby Bethnal Green Station. So visitor numbers were no doubt down on expectations. Those who did manage to get there would have seen what is thought to be the UK's oldest rocking horse, possibly an erstwhile plaything of Charles I. The......

It's a funny old world. When Sleater-Kinney announced they were no more, we had a nostalgic look back at the unprecedented double review we put up for their album, The Woods. One of the albums it beat to that week's coveted Londonist Album of the Week award was Bang Bang Rock & Roll by Art Brut. Would you believe it (and we would, since coincidence isn't really all that spooky), we received an e-mail......

There can't, nor shouldn't be many of us who have never come into contact with the Mr. Men, today celebrating their 35th birthday. Since advertising copywriter Roger Hargreaves's son once asked him what a tickle looked like, there have been over 80 Mr Men and Little Miss books translated into 15 languages worldwide, selling over 100 million copies and making Hargreaves the third best selling author of all time in Britain in 2005. Hargreaves......

Re-reading this before putting it live, we're struck by how many very fine gigs and events there are on this week (as well as how bad our spelling is) and that's just the ones we know about. Promise us you'll go to at least one of them. We're sure you'll have a good time. Tonight: LA singer / songwriter, and one half of folk duo the Les Shelleys, Angela Correa will be at the......

Starting with, for us, the best track on their latest album, Station Approach, and ending on the second-best, Forget Myself, Elbow took Brixton by storm last night, and not for the first time. The feeling is, however, that this time they deserved it all the more. Touring an album that is stronger than Cast of Thousands, Elbow have ditched the visuals that have hitherto been a major feature of their gigs, and let the......

Another week of gig going upon us and much to recommend so without further whatever here's the Londonist Music team's guide to what we think you should be doing for the next seven days. Wednesday: Well if you've not made plans for tonight yet you could head down to the Garage to check out San Fransican art pop punkers Deerhoof. Otherwise we suggest you kick off John Peel Day at the 12 Bar Club......

A rousing chorus of Happy Birthday to us will be heard from the ofices of Uncut magazine this Thursday as they publish their 100th issue. Over the past 8 years Uncut has kept us entertained with its mixture of cult movie writing and focus on classic country and folk oriented rock music. They've introduced us to some great artists (including The Drive By Truckers, Micah P Hinson and Richmond Fonataine) and in doing so......
