This week, Londonist caught two bands at either end of the musical scale - American metal stars Wolves in the Throne Room @ Underworld and the ever great Elbow at an intimate Porchester Hall show. We also started offering you the chance to win tickets to see Late of the Pier on February 28th. We also previewed the forthcoming second iTunes festival, which starts this coming Thursday. Looking forward to this week however, Monday night......

On a cold winter night in North London, we meet with hotly tipped indie pop beat combo The Wave Pictures before their gig at the Islington Bar Academy. Counting Jeffrey Lewis, Dean Wareham, Darren Hayman and Herman Düne as fans David Tattersall (vocals, guitar), Franic Rozycki (bass) and Jonny 'Huddersfield' Helm talk to us about their inspirations and what it's like to be finally getting recognition after years of obscurity. How would you describe......

So last Thursday we went to see Londonist-favourites Mitch (whom we interviewed a couple of months ago) play at the rather ambitiously-named Pleasure Unit in Bethnal Green. Here’s what we took away from the gig: A high-pitched ringing in the ears. Two guitars plus one bass plus one drummer plus forceful vocals plus small venue equals a very loud gig. The venue is OK, but not great. Sure, the bar staff are nice. But......

Tonight start the week by going to see massive Swedish popstar Marit Bergman at Hoxton Bar & Grill. She's playing a one off UK gig in an attempt to get signed in the UK. (£6, here. Former Hefner frontman Darren Hayman teams up with fledgling band The Wave Pictures at The Luminaire (£8, here). Plus the awesome Cold War Kids play Shepherd's Bush Empire. On Tuesday, German dance kids Digitalism are at the Scala......

Busy week for music as bands start to warm up for the massive festival known as Glastonbury next weekend. Monday night sees Pearl Jam grace Wembley Arena, with support coming more than ably from the brilliant Idlewild. Tickets are sold out; however as always check for a last minute allocation or Scarlet Mist for a fair deal. Doors are at 6pm. Everyone’s favourite Liverpudlians The Coral grace the Astoria as a warm up for Glastonbury,......

I've discussed my disinclination to leave my house to see live music in this column before, along with the irony that I expect others to do the exact same thing to see me play. What can I say, I'm a fickle artist! It's not that I don't love and appreciate human beings making music right in front of me, but that there are so many factors that can get in the way of my......

As the start of the festival season rolls around once again, many big tours are finished for the summer, leaving plenty of chances to catch that small indie act you missed so you could catch Mika that night… we give you the best of the bands this week to see. Monday brings Ozzie shoe-gazers Architecture in Helsinki to Kings College, for a gig that is sure to be many a discerning music fans year-to-date......

Monday night sees Londonist favourite Mika return to the capital for a triumphant one night stand at Shepherds Bush Empire. Tickets are sold out, but some are available for face-value exchange on Scarlet Mist Tuesday sees Interpol, the New York doom-lovers goth out Camden’s Koko as they do a one off date in support of their forthcoming new album “Our Love To Admire”. Tickets are long gone, and hard to come by via other......

I very randomly won tickets to see Scott Matthews play an intimate gig at Islington Bar Academy on Tuesday night, as part of the Xfm sessions series. After being blown away by his album "Passing Stranger" I was disappointed to leave the venue feeling slightly underwhelmed by the evening's proceedings. It mostly wasn't Scott's fault. What became clear throughout the course of the evening was that, while a lot of people who enter competitions......

It's the time of year that sends compulsive list makers in to a frenzy, and this girl is no exception. It's the Notes From The City Official 2006 End Of Year Things-That-Laura-Liked Summary - catchy! It's as much a list of things I really think everyone should check out as a list of my favourite things from the year, so follow the links at will... Top 10 Albums 1. The Eraser - Thom Yorke 2.......

Oh bloody hell! Too many good gigs clash with each other this week and it's causing a lot of trauma in the heads of those at Londonist Towers. Tomorrow the hugely underrated new girl rock/pop act Love Bites are on stage in Islington Bar Academy at exactly the same time the delectable Sarah Nixey takes to the stage downstairs at the actual academy supporting ex fellow bandmate, Luke Haines. Then 5 minutes up the......

First up, a little welcome. The eagle-eyed amongst you will have noticed the debut post yesterday by our new signing, Talia. Talia brings some much-needed pop nous to the Londonist Music Dungeon and will help to broaden the eclectic coverage we already give to music. She's also a big Pipettes fan so a long sentence in the dungeon is assured. Before we launch into the gigs update, here's Talia's update on the MOBOs: Little......

We've been banging on about them long enough, so it's with great delight that we bring you the wonderful news for genuine Londonist favourites The Pipettes. Last night saw the band's hard-gigging finally pay off when they signed to the Memphis Industries label, home to the likes of The Go! Team, Fort Lauderdale and Blue States. If you're really lucky, and quick, you'll be able to pick up a copy of the ABC EP,......

FROG have done it again, and as if to prove they've got more balls than that stupid annoying mobile-ringtone-toting amphibian, they're putting on not one, not three, not fifty-seven, but two shows on for you this Saturday. The special one-off FROG Saturday Matinee features Babyshambles at Nambucca (596 Holloway Road, nearest tubes Archway or Holloway Road). As per usual for FROG, advance tickets aren't available, which might be a good thing, given Babyshambles' track......

A disappointing night at the Brits for London acts, unless you count the Brummie with the faux-Cockney accent Mike Skinner aka The Streets, who won the Best British Male Solo Artist award. The Londonist office is divided on The Streets so we won't say any more lest a fist-fight break out. In the international categories, the entertaining Scissor Sisters cleaned up in the Best Group, Best Album and Best Newcomer categories. The Brits site......

The shock of being back at work after the torpor of the Christmas holidays is a little bit like a cold that won't quite go away, you can't quite shift that nagging horrible feeling that's stopping you feeling 100 per cent. To blast away the last vestiges of evil, try these gigs: As usual we've only listed gigs where tickets are still available as far as we know. To get your gig or event listed......
