Expansion plans at both Stansted and London City airports have been approved by the Government. Under the proposals, rubber-stamped by new Transport Secretary Geoff Hoon, another 10 million passengers will join the 25 million currently enjoying the jaunt Essexwards on the Stansted Express each year, while City will welcome a 50% increase in flights, bringing a total of 3.2 million passengers annually. Green campaigners and local residents have reacted with typical incandescence, made particularly......

Unexploded World War II bombs and London buses: you wait for ages for one, then two show up at once. A day after the Hammersmith & City, District and Circle lines were disrupted by a UXB found in Bromley By-Bow, another one has been unearthed, this time at the Olympic site in Stratford. All flights into and out of London City Airport have been halted due to an enforced air exclusion zone; however, the airport's......

A jumbo jet was forced into a series of steep dives over London earlier today due to instrument failure. The Standard screams: "The aircraft dropped to its minimum permitted altitude of 1,200 feet meaning it was seconds from a major disaster." Mayor Ken is being urged not to block the expansion of London City Airport after he claimed recently that there would be no need for the airstrip once Crossrail is built. Good reviews......

Because Londonist was riddled with gremlins over the last couple of days we're going to catch up with a little weekend posting. Londonist: hiding from the fiery disc in the sky so you don't have to. There seem a few less planes dotted about over the Londonist HQ this morning. Must be because London City Airport is going ga-ga over a more grounded form of transport: London City Airport will be closed to air......

When the Tube gets it right there's never as much noise made as when they get is spectacularly wrong, so we feel it's our duty to pick up this little news story about Londonist's favourite underground route: the Docklands Light Railway. Apparently, multinational Amec (you know, they 'deliver and support infrastructure from local technical services to international landmark projects') and the Royal Bank of Scotland have raised between them £20 million needed to extend......
