Some pictures taken at today's Olympic and Paralympic Heroes Parade, hot off the press Flickrpool. Thanks to Christo Geoghegan and Herschell Hershey.......

In case you need reminding of our nation's recently revived sporting prowess several hundred of our sterling Olympians and Paralympians will be journeying from the Mansion House to Trafalgar Square at lunchtime on Thursday. Arranged carnival-style on a dozen floats carried on flatbed trucks they will be following our world champion rugby players and Ashes winning cricketers in what is gradually becoming a traditional rite of national recognition. The parade is set to begin......

Boris did us proud today, waving the Paralympic flag for 2012 like a pro. Clearly having taken notice of some of his critics from the closing ceremony of the Olympics 3 or so weeks ago, our Mayor appeared buttoned up, smartly tied and confident in his handling of the flagpole. The double decker bus made a second appearance too, sans dubious celebrities but featuring a tea lady and Nelson mounting his column. Thus, Beijing......

All this to-ing and fro-ing is making us dizzy! 'WeirGate' took an unexpected twist today when Team Australia withdrew their successful appeal for a re-run of the men's 800m whelchair final. In a letter signed by the head coach and silver medallist Kurt Fearnley they called for the medals to be awarded as per the race yesterday. So Londoner Dave Weir keeps his gold afterall. The sportsmanship from Australia should be applauded, but not......

Just as soon as we talk about the success of one of our city's Paralympians in Beijing, it all gets a bit more complicated. Londoner Dave Weir, in his third of five different events he's competing in, managed to win the 800m wheelchair final today to take his first gold medal (to sit alongside his silver and bronze from two earlier distances). Australia's Kurt Fearnley came second, 0.15 seconds behind. Australia appealed the result......

Working at my first ever Paralympic Games in Beijing, this Londonista heard and understood the maxim: 'Heroes are born at the Olympics; Heroes come to the Paralympics.' The Paralympics are the equivalent of the Olympics for athletes with physical, mental, and sensorial disabilities (so you'll see athletes with all sorts of disabilities, amputations, blindness, cerebral palsy etc). Each sport's heats and finals are now well under way, building up to a finale this Wednesday......

Beijing's Paralympic Games kick off shortly, hot on the heels of the Olympic Games where Team GB (and those Londoners within its ranks), did us proud. The Paralympics are a very different kettle of fish. Britain has traditionally done very well at these games, and now that there has been sustained investment from the lottery in elite disabled sport - to the tune of £30m - there is an expectation for the team to......
