Medical London, published by Wellcome in October, is a Londony treasure trove in a smart burgundy box; a beautiful and enlightening compendium from our favourite Euston Road residents. Here's what you need to know to get this on your shopping list. Medical London consists of 2 books; "Sick City", a softback essay collection exploring medicine, life and death in London which looks beautifully illustrated and decorated with literary references. "Anatomy of the City" is......

One of the benefits of roof or windowsill gardens must be being pretty confident about what's lurking in your plantings. Not likely to encounter snails or slugs or beetles or.... human remains. Which is what a plucky allotmenteer in Walthamstow dug up last week. To be more specific, a human skull. Police are now running forensic tests on the skull and treating the plot as a crime scene so we wait for more news......

The bones of old Londoners can tell a lot about how they lived - and died - in the city as Wellcome's latest exhibition, opening today, proves. Old burial sites are found from time to time around the city during construction works, for example the remodeling of Spitalfields Market and the Jubilee line expansion. Twenty six skeletons, recovered from 10 different locations across the city and analysed by the Museum of London are on......

Doesn't sunshine make everything seem better? Alright, it's been brass monkeys but nothing lifts the winter blues like bright skies, crisp air and early daffodils. It's half term for most kids this week so your commute might even be more pleasant. In which case, perhaps you'll be more inclined to get out after work and try something different that's light on your wallet and heavy on aceness. After all, we really can't afford good......

You may remember that we're not exactly lukewarm about this place. We were even up for finding love here. I guess you could say we're fans. Nothing has changed with a change in exhibition: Sleeping and Dreaming is marvellous and you must go. For a start, it's free. Nought pee. You can just swan through the doors, turn left and there you are. But that's where it gets dark and you immediately start watching......

Unless there were leaves on the line, not enough station staff, delays at Paris holding everything up or industrial action on either side of the Channel, the first Eurostar train should be pulling into its new station at St Pancras this morning. We've had a sneak preview of what it's like and have been terribly excited about it so far, and at last, today, we get to see it in its full glory. We......

If you were up in Edinburgh for the first week of the festival or are just back from that hedonistic week away then you’re probably feeling the pinch. You’ll not be able to go naughty Monday indie clubbing at Durr at The End. You can’t fork out to go to Cadogan Hall and watch the Charlie Chaplin triple bills with live music and celebrity hosts. Neither will you be getting a last minute ticket......

It's not the first place you would think of when looking for love but for those with a questing heart, the place to go is Euston Road. art2heart is the dating organisation that aims to bring people together through art and culture. The idea is both lofty and lovely: each month, 150 people, sometimes more, gather for monthly art2heart events held at prestigious museums or galleries where art can be admired and discussed with......

London's got its share of surgical history, but our newest scientific exhibition space has strapped the operating theatre concept to a gurney and wheeled it into the 21st century. Last night at the Wellcome Collection a full house watched Dr Frank Wells perform open-heart surgery on a 68-year-old man. It was all done via a remote link to Papworth Hospital in Cambridge, so although the audience wasn't in the same room as the patient......

This new space for science, arts and medicine isn’t yet on everyone’s cultural radar. It will be soon. The Wellcome Collection was opened yesterday by James Watson, the giant of science who co-discovered the structure of DNA. Watson said that we Brits ‘should be proud’ to boast such a centre, lambasting the rest of Europe and particularly the USA for lacking decent public science venues. And it really is a treasure. Three galleries chart......

Well, the big man’s in town – over thirty times – so we thought it apt to track down his other work in the capital. On the map at the bottom, green points indicate temporary installations that form the Event Horizon project, and purple markers are permanent pieces that predate this show. 1. Quantum Cloud, Greenwich Peninsula Did you know that London contains a Gormley sculpture taller than the Angel of the North? Quantum Cloud......

These listings appear every Wednesday. If you want to let us know about any upcoming science or technology events, you can contact us on LondonistSciTech@Gmail.com Avast! Could this be the shortest Cogito ever? Just three events this week. Probably a good thing as lecture theatres are the last place to be in a heatwave. If you do want some science action this week, the Dana Centre is your only hope. (No, there is another…we’ll......
